The ability to stay more grounded, even when things are chaotic, will help create ease and flow in our lives.
Our experiences in life can test our patience and attitude when things are not going well. Knowing how to remain calm and composed will allow us to deal with our challenges in a better frame of mind.
What Does it Mean to Be More Grounded?
From an energetic perspective, being grounded means we’re connected to our source energy. It means we’re connected to the Earth and have a sense or knowing we’re protected.
Despite what may be going on externally, we feel safe, centred and at ease with everything around us.
At a deeper level, being grounded refers to our mental and emotional states. It’s how we choose to be. It’s a way of being.
When we’re more grounded, we’re secure and stable internally, which will reflect how we operate externally. A key to being more grounded is knowing when we’re not.
Signs You Are Not Grounded
There are things we can pay attention to that indicate we’re not grounded. These signs can include:
- Getting triggered by events we cannot change or control.
- Finding it difficult to concentrate on tasks at hand.
- Feeling fatigued constantly.
- Having poor quality sleep.
- Experiencing discomfort, pain or inflammation.
- Feeling spaced out and distracted.
- Having a deep urge to reconnect with our body or do something physical.
- Worrying about things unnecessarily which can cause anxiety.
- Having difficulty communicating what’s on our mind.
- Unable to remain present and be in the “now.”
When we notice these signs, it should be a trigger to change our mental and emotional states.

Even though it sounds like a simple idea, it’s an area we can easily let ourselves down in. It’s an area I’ve failed in many times, therefore I’m always evaluating how I can improve.
What Does Keeping Your Word Mean?
Keeping your word means doing what you say you’ll do. It’s agreeing to follow through on a commitment.
We can think of it as a verbal contract between two people. If we give our word the same level of importance as a written contract, it will be easier to do what we’ve agreed to.
Why Do We Struggle to Keep Our Word?
We often forget how powerful our words are and not follow through on something we’ve committed to. Reasons we struggle to keep our word include:
- We’re not intentional about the words we use.
- We forget what we’ve said or agreed to.
- We’re unaware we’ve agreed to something.
- We’re unwilling to renegotiate what we’ve committed to.
- We don’t want to do what we said we would do.
- We over-commit ourselves and not allow enough time to do what we said we would.
- We shift our attention to something else without understanding the implications of our commitments.
When we pay more attention to the words we use and what we’re committing to, keeping our word will not be an issue.
Knowing how to develop persistence can be the difference between achieving something we want or not.
Whenever we pursue anything meaningful or worthwhile in life, we will face obstacles, setbacks, and even experience failures. How we deal with them determines if we’re persistent.
What is Persistence?
Persistence is the ability to continue taking action towards what we want, despite challenges or struggles. It’s what separates those who are interested in achieving something they want and those who commit to achieving it.
The journey to success can include various setbacks, ridicule, criticism, humiliation or disappointments. How we deal with them determines how persistent we are and if we’ll eventually achieve success.
Why is it Important to Develop Persistence?
Persistence is important because it:
- Tests our level of commitment.
- Supports us in gaining greater levels of clarity.
- Helps us become mentally stronger.
- Allows us to focus on what’s most important.
- Causes us to make better decisions and take more intelligent actions.
The stronger our ability to remain persistent, the greater our chances of eventually achieving what’s important.
When we have a high intention to achieve something we want, with no attachment to it, we can achieve it faster.
The starting point to achieve anything new is a desire or an intention. The stronger our desire or intention, the more energy we’ll give to achieve it.
A high intention can be the difference between achieving something we want or not.
What Does Having High Intention Mean?
Having a high intention means we’ve defined what we want and are emotionally connected to it. It’s having the awareness and the commitment to do what’s required to achieve our goal.
We can make things difficult for ourselves if we have a high intention for something with an attachment to it. Sometimes, constantly striving and becoming obsessed about what we want, in an unhealthy way, can slow down our progress.
The ideal situation is to have a high intention to achieve our goal, but have a low attachment to it.
This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t care or take action to achieve our goal. It means we don’t have to focus on our goal obsessively. We have to learn to trust we’ll achieve our goal at the right time.
The Different Stages of Intention and Attachment
- High Intention / High Attachment. This is when we’re constantly striving and pushing ourselves. It can lead to mental and physical exhaustion or burnout.
- High Intention / Low Attachment. This is when we’re doing what’s required to achieve our goal, but we don’t make mean anything about us. If we fall short or don’t achieve our goal, we know we did the best we could. If we achieve our goal, we can celebrate the win and be satisfied with our efforts.
- Low Intention / High Attachment. This is where we want to achieve something, but don’t take the necessary actions to achieve it. This often generates unhealthy emotions when we don’t achieve our goal.
- Low Intention / Low Attachment. This is where we don’t have goals or aren’t clear about what we want, therefore we do nothing new. Since we don’t know what we want, we achieve nothing of significance in our lives.
Our ability to have a high intention and a low attachment to what we want will make us progress faster.
If you apply this simple technique, you will be more effective and get more of the right things done.
Since we live busy lives, having ways that can make us work smarter is an advantage.
Does This Way of Working Sound Familiar?
You sit down to work on your first task. A few minutes in, you get a notification on your phone or computer. You read that notification and respond if required.
Now, you get back to working on your task. As you’re working, you remember you wanted to check something online that you didn’t check before you started working.
You switch over to your internet browser and before you know it, 15 or 20 minutes have gone by. You’re annoyed with yourself for going on the internet. You get back to your task.
You take several minutes to refocus and get back to where you had left off.
As you’re concentrating well again, your phone rings. Now, you’re deciding whether to answer or ignore it because you have done nothing productive so far. Since you’re already distracted, you answer it.
And so it goes. Distractions and interruptions will affect how much you produce every day.
The Downside of Working That Way
If you’re constantly stopping and restarting when you’re working, it will:
- Slow your progress.
- Cause you to lose focus.
- Generate more stress because you’re not progressing as fast as you’d like.
- Make you unproductive.
- Cause you to feel fatigued easily.
- Affect your ability to deal with distractions.
- Cause you to feel you’re always behind and trying to catch up.
- Not allow you to get into a rhythm while working.
This is a bigger challenge if you’re trying to do many similar tasks or repeated processes throughout the week.
There is one simple technique you can apply to become more effective.
When we practice letting go consistently, we’ll have the ability to free ourselves from things causing us to suffer.
Even though the practice of letting go is simple, there are things to know to do it effectively.
What is Letting Go?
It’s a practice that allows us to free ourselves from something from the past and focus on the present moment.
The ability to let go helps us release unhealthy emotions so we can give more attention to what we want.
Whenever we’re triggered by an event, we’ll experience a range of emotions. Most people prefer positive emotions. Negative emotions can include frustration, anger, disappointment, sadness, guilt or jealously.
Hanging on to negative emotions can cause us extra stress and also cause us to not function well daily. Learning to let go of negative emotions will make a difference every day.
If we observe a young child, they can experience a range of emotions quickly. They can cry in one moment and be jovial or happy the next moment. They don’t hold on to negative emotions.
A Practical Example of Letting Go
If we imagine holding a pen in one hand, we can turn our hand and drop the pen. The pen isn’t attached to our hand.
Similarly, our emotions aren’t attached to us. We can let them go the same way we can drop a pen from our hand.
The more we practice letting go, the easier it will become and the more comfortable we’ll be with the process.

Visualization is used in sports, business and life to reach new or greater levels of success. Yet, it’s not something that’s commonly mentioned when wanting to achieve a new outcome.
What is Visualization?
Visualization is a technique that allows us to see an outcome or goal as already complete, before it is. It’s using the power of our mind, through our imagination, to create mental images of what we want.
It’s creating a movie on the screen of our minds of things we’d like to do, achieve or experience. Each time we visualize, we’re engaging our subconscious mind to make what we’re visualizing come true.
Why Visualization Works?
When we visualize, it creates a gap in our subconscious mind between what we currently have or where we are, and what we’re visualizing. This creates structural tension in our mind.
Whenever there is tension, our mind will seek to resolve it. This means our mind will work on filling the gap between what we have and what we want.
This will show up as greater levels of motivation, better ideas and more creativity, so we can reach what we’re visualizing. We’ll also pay more attention things around us, which may be clues to get us closer to where we want to be.

As we are beings programmed for growth, if we’re not growing, we won’t be at our best. This is why having a growth mindset is important.
What is a Growth Mindset?
A growth mindset is a commitment to be the best we can be and harness our potential. It’s our willingness to use our experiences to become the person we know we can be.
Not everything in life will go as we expect or as we plan. There will be challenges, disappointments and failures as we strive to get to where we want to be in life.
Having a growth mindset means doing what’s required to achieve what we want. It’s having a belief that with the right thinking, strategies and actions, we can succeed in what we choose.
A person with a growth mindset commits to learning what’s necessary to achieve results they want. A person who doesn’t have a growth mindset will not explore new options to achieve the results they want.
Those who don’t have a growth mindset have a fixed mindset.
A simple example is of a person who wants to develop a new skill. If they have a growth mindset, they know with dedication and constant practice, they’ll develop a certain level of competence.
If they have a fixed mindset, they may complain about how difficult the process is and will want to quit. Their internal dialogue is focused on the negative aspects of the process rather than the potential reward.
If we have a growth mindset, we can improve our lives in a big way.
